Black Bears Hold on for Victory Over Murus Sanctus in Duke of Sutherland Cup

In a must-win game for both teams who held 1-1 records, Black Bears and Murus Sanctus battled into the final seconds in the Duke of Sutherland Cup, but Black Bears held off a second half charge to claim the 8-7 victory at Cowdray Park Polo Club.

Producing identical 50% shooting on 10 shots, little separated Black Bears and Murus Sanctus at the end of the game, but Black Bears built a large lead early behind the balanced play of all four players who found the scoresheet. Facing a four-goal deficit after the second chukka, Murus Sanctus slowly worked their way back into the game thanks to Juan Martin Nero and Malcolm Borwick. Scoring all seven of their team’s goals, the duo brought Murus Sanctus within one in the final chukka, but the penalty goal from Patrick O’Dwyer gave Black Bears the extra goal they needed to capture the 8-7 victory.
